Quarantine Heroes with Fur

QUARANTINE HEROES WITH FUR

About the Book

Our pets have become our quarantine heroes by keeping us active and happy during the pandemic.

Many surveys found that pet owners felt less lonely during quarantine as their pets helped to lower their anxiety levels over the past few months. Thanks to this extra time inside, owners feel they have become closer to their pets during the COVID-19 quarantine 2020.

My pets brought lots of joy and entertainment to myself and my family's lives during the last few months of quarantine. Knowing that I was not the only pet parent who appreciated the love and comfort received by my pets during these hard times, I wanted to do something to highlight these unlikely quarantine heroes and honour the relationship we have with them.

The book is filled with pet owner’s stories highlighting how their pets were their quarantine heroes. The imagery of them and their pets was taken by me, Beth Alexander from Beth Photography, in my new mobile Pet Photography Studio.

Aim of the fundraisers

All of the proceeds raised from the contest entries and book sales will go to support SafePet Ottawa.

SafePet Ottawa fosters animals for survivors and their children who need to exit from domestic violence into the safety of local Violence Against Women (VAW) Shelters or into a Transitional Housing Support Program.

We are veterinary clinics, fosters, behaviourists and sometimes your next-door neighbour. We provide necessary veterinary intake and long or short-term fostering for the duration of a survivor's stay in a shelter or in a THSP.

Upon exiting a shelter, we reunite owners with their pets so that they can move into a better future together.

CREATING THE BOOK

I needed models for the book, so a Photo Contest was launched where the participants could submit an entry of a picture of their pet and why their pets were their Quarantine Heroes.

The 40 entries with the most votes won a full Pet Photography experience with me, Beth Alexander from Beth Photography, in my new Mobile Studio and were featured in the book.

The photo contest raised an amazing $1,127. 😱 🙏🏻

After many months of hard work, the book is finally available for sale through Blurb® a self-publishing and marketing platform.

$10 from each book sold will be donated to SafePet Ottawa.

This 42 page, 10X8 hardcover book can now be purchased and shipped straight to your home.
