" When I was 3 months pregnant, I was affected with debilitating depression and was required to take sick leave. When I was on leave, I watched a documentary called “Shelter Me”. Women serving life in prison were paired with surrendered dogs and then trained the dogs to be therapy and service dogs for people with disabilities. It inspired me to have something to focus on besides my depression, so we decided to invest in a breed of dog that would be a course of therapy for me.

The day I brought her home, I felt a sense of joy that I hadn't had in more than 2 months (which was a devastating feeling as I was pregnant!). Brandie needed to be walked and trained and by focusing on caring for her, she helped me get through the darkness. We spent 6 months together while we waited for the baby. ”  - Val
