Spreading Joy Through Pet Photography - Art Project
/#spreadingjoythroughpetphotography
WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
Since I started doing the CATCH-A-TREAT™ Fundraising events in 2021, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing local businesses who helped raise thousands of dollars for many local animal rescues.
These fundraisers are super fun and silly treat-catching photography sessions for dogs.
The photography session pairs studio photography, colourful backgrounds and yummy treats to create ridiculously fun images of dogs “trying” to catch hot dogs. 🤣🐶🌭
I'm so proud of my little CATCH-A-TREAT™ events. They are growing into an amazing fundraiser, but now what do I do with the THOUSANDS of images generated from these events?!?!?
I mean these pictures are way too cute and funny to just store on a hard drive for no one to see!
Since the Purpose of Unleash Pet Photography is to Spread Joy and Happiness through fun and natural pet photography, I decided to share these images with the world, well at least my little community. 😉
I’ve always dreamed of having my art showcased in a gallery, but where and how I had no idea, so I thought what about doing a Public Art Display? This would also make it more accessible and hopefully be enjoyed by more people.
I happen to live by a 50 foot long fence beside the general store on the main street of our little town of Avonmore, making it the perfect high traffic area.
Come by anytime this winter ( Dec-Feb) to see the Giant 4 feet Banners and make sure you swing by Barkley’s General Store to grab some snacks for the trip back home.
WHEN & WHY?
Canadian winters (December, January, February) can get pretty harsh and the winter blues are real.
Seasonal depression is very common. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, an estimated 2 to 10% of Canadians are affected.
The symptoms are varied and include fatigue, an excessive need for sleep, increased appetite, and impaired memory and concentration.
It’s a disorder that is characterized by depressive episodes in the fall and winter, and symptoms that stabilize in the spring and summer.
In modern society, fierce competition and socioeconomic interaction stress the quality of life, causing a negative influence on a person's mental health. Laughter is a positive sensation, and seems to be a useful and healthy way to overcome stress and depression.
So what is the solution too feeling cheerful in the winter months? Looking at funny, silly dog pictures of course! 😉
But seriously, did you know, images of dogs alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD by up to 57% and that LOOKING at a dog increases the feel-good hormone Oxytocin by an amazing 300%!! 🤯
Art sparks the imagination, inspires reflection, and deepens connections among communities. I hope that my images brighten someone’s day and brings smiles to people’s faces. 😁
