Veterinary Technician Week
/National Veterinary Technician Week is celebrated on October 11 - 17, 2020. For now, this Vet Tech week is celebrated only in the USA, but as the profession grows each year other countries are bound to join the celebration as well. The tradition started in 1993 when a resolution was passed by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians declaring every third week in October as a National Vet Tech Week.
Veterinary Technicians are critical to the day-to-day operations of veterinary practices and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare. National Veterinary Technician Week provides an opportunity to celebrate, recognize and promote the valuable contributions the Veterinary Technicians make to the veterinary profession and society.
In addition to working on the front lines with clients, Technicians work tirelessly in exam rooms, labs and operating rooms using their vast technical and scientific knowledge treating and caring for every species of animal. They are on their feet all day, dodging fecal matter, filling meds, placing catheters and breaking their backs lifting dogs. There is no end to the amount of love, care and support they provide to our pets.
If human health care has nurses, anesthesiologists, radiation technologists, laboratory technologists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, physiotherapists, in veterinary medicine we have all of those in one - Veterinary Technicians. Your Vet Tech worked hard to achieve their credentials, education and skills.
This year Technicians have been put to the test like never before. Deemed essential personnel, Technicians went to work exposing themselves to the possibility of contracting the Covid 19 virus with no cure. Their love for animals and their work pushed them to carry on each day seeing clients and animals during a stressful time.
I am proud to salute and celebrate these professionals. So, the next time you visit your Veterinarian’s office, be sure to say “Thank you” to the Vet Technicians as well.
As a big thank you for all that they do I’ve created this special design. You can find it along with other pet related designs in my NEW Animal Love T-Shirt Online Store.
