/Meet Jazz & Fiction the 13 year old barn cats from Cape Breton.
“My sister and I were in Cape Breton at a cousin’s wedding when we heard of two litters of kittens being given away at a barn close by. We didn’t hesitate. We went there planning to take one, but then we thought, well “Why not take two?” It was hard to decide on only two, with two litters of seven kittens running around in the barn. When we saw Fiction (the calico), our minds were immediately made up, but then we had to choose another. We thought we would keep sisters together, so choosing two from the same litter made sense.
Jazz was playing/hiding in the barn, so it was tough to get a good look at her. We finally caught a good glimpse and decided on her, but then off she went and hid again. The owner was able to find her and the rest is history.
We moved from Halifax a little less than a year later, and these two Cape Breton kitties have been with me in Ottawa since.
Fiction really likes the washroom. Sometimes she’ll go in there and cry for me to come in with her. She likes to hop in the tub or hang out on the counter top beside the sink. She also likes to check out the fridge when I open it to get something.
Fiction also knows when it is bedtime. She’ll patiently sit there staring at me until I get up to go to bed. Fiction does have one unusual habit. She likes to sit on the back of the couch behind someone and smell their hair, especially if it is someone new. She’ll rub her head up against the person’s head and gets so excited that she starts to gently bite the person’s head!
Jazz is the calmer one. She likes to play with shoes and toys. After I go to bed each night, I hear her scurrying around with her toys in her mouth, as if she’s hunted down her prey.
I love their company. People who don’t have cats or dogs don’t understand how wonderful their company is ALL the time. Jazz and Fiction are always around me, always wanting my attention and I could never get tired of that.” - Mike
Why did you decide on professional Pet Photography?
“I’ve always wanted to get professional photos taken of Jazz and Fiction. I can snap thousands of photos of them all day long, but I don’t have the proper equipment to take the quality photos that I want to frame and hang on my walls. Beth captures amazing moments of all her furry friends she has photographed, and I wanted her to do the same with my two little fluff balls!”
Was there something you were worried about before we worked together?
“ Beth had never met them before, so I just wondered if they’d be social enough for the photo shoot.”
